This weekend, Neil, Duckie, Bloom, and I went out on the town to spend some money and be festive. We saw Sherlock Holmes, ate at PM, shopped with friends, drank buckets of coffee, and even did a little dog walking.
. I found a red and white striped shirt at Forever21 with awesome puffy sleeves and a heart locket necklace. I also found a pair of high waisted navy shorts that I've got on hold (they were on the mannequin when we visited, and now I get to pick them up!), as well as a cute lace blouse from Local Honey that looks like it belongs in a square dancing uniform. In a good way, of course.
By the way. I call Bloom Muppet sometimes because her funny little straight-lined mouth reminds me of a puppet.. we haven't renamed her or anything. She is the cutest Muppet I've ever seen, the Cookie Monster being second.
Neil and I also made a stop at a record store in town and picked up Modest Mouse's latest EP on vinyl as well as some old school blues (Fred McDowell.. you guys know him?). We've got a junky record player from Goodwill that makes me happy inside when it plays.
After the weekend festivities, a couple of us were pretty beat.
We saw Avatar in IMAX last night.. what an awesome film! The plot was pretty worn out (if you've seen Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, The Last of the Mohicans, or Fern Gully, you basically know what happens), but honestly, a solid storyline is not why you see a film like Avatar. It's the action and the incredible technology that makes the experience so worth it. And man alive, I wouldn't mind being a blue alien if it means I can fly a four winged lizard thing.

(there is a great, glittery gold bird in my hair that I found at a craft store, but sadly the pictures didn't turn out well enough to see details of the little guy)
Old Crow Medicine Show and Chuck Mead, my parents and Neil, the Ryman Auditorium. All added up to a seriously wonderful New Years.
Noise makers and cool people!!
The Old Crow guys are serious entertainers with a style that is very reminiscent of old time-y radio. When they spoke in between songs, it felt like you were listening to a radio broadcast during the Depression.. which was a very good thing, in case you were wondering. It was a great show with a lot of dancing and instruments and ENERGY - and they even did a little a capella for us during the encore.
Willie Watson is my favorite, by the way.
And apparently they made their big break a few years back at the Ryman. I didn't know that until later on, but it makes me all the more thankful to have seen them on a stage that holds so many personal (and successful) memories for them.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you all had a wonderful celebration today.. Our house was filled with wrapping paper pieces and extravagant food and overexcited puppies and craziness. In other words, it may have been my best Christmas yet.
I'm convinced that the older I get, the more I enjoy Christmas. Does that make sense.. shouldn't you enjoy Christmas more as a kid? It could be that I appreciate being with my family more now that I'm married and can't be with them every year for the holidays. It could be that with or without split holidays, my parents rock and it takes growing up to realize just how much. It could be that I have lovely sisters who have chosen the greatest men who bring their own unique sense of self and fun to Christmas. It could be that perhaps eggnog tastes better the older you become, and a Beef Wellington holiday feast can't be truly understood by a 10 year old whose favorite meal is a hot dog and fries (I won't lie, I still love hot dogs and fries). It could be that I'm now married to the absolute best person in the world who happens to add significance to every event, no matter how small.
